Just came across a cute site!

I love on-line shopping. With two small children at home, I don’t even bother braving malls unless I absolutely must.

My latest quest – locate a JJ Cole Urban Bundle Me in the colour “Stealth.” (Hey, we get some cold weather here in the East Coast!) After my first initial looks on Kijiji and Craigslist (no luck), I proceeded to look for a Canadian on-line retailer.

I came across this cool Vancouver-based site – www.lussobaby.ca. They had what I was looking for, shipping is reasonable and hey, it’s Canadian, eh? There are even multiple coupon codes out there in Internet land that can save you some big bucks!

So, I’ve placed my order for something like $15.00 cheaper than the closest store near my house that sells them. I love a great find! I’ll let you all know when it arrives and how customer service is. Just thought I’d share my newest score.

The sexiest cupcakes ever!

I’m not a huge fan of big shopping malls, but every once in a while I’ll brave them if everything I need is conveniently located in one. (not often!)

Today I lugged the family to Vaughan Mills up in Vaughan, just north of Toronto. (On a Sunday? Am I crazy? The answer is “yes.”)  I got everything I needed (back to school goodies) – and just as we were headed to our exit, I noticed an adorable kiosk. It was decorated in pink, black, with chandeliers and pretty ladies…huh? What were they selling?   I had to check it out.

Who would have thought that right in the middle of the shopping mall, two gorgeous gals were selling the prettiest cupcakes ever!  If you were able to take your eyes off the stunning women selling the adorable edible delights, you would find, organized neatly behind glass, the cutest little delights.  Red Velvet, marble, chocolate raspberry….need I say more?

Hey, I’ve never met a cupcake I didn’t like, but I was a little skeptical – could it just be a fancy kiosk and “not-so-great” goodies?  Also, these cakes weren’t exactly cheap, at more than $3.50 a cupcake, but the truth is…….there really was no reason to decide – I WAS going to try these little cuties. I was certainly drawn in by the whole experience here: the name and slogan (“WeBakeinHeels.com”), the pretty and girly kiosk, the sparkly salesladies…yes, I did buy 4 of the sweet treats. I have to say, the ladies were super nice and by the looks of the website, may have been the owners themselves.

Yes – the cupcakes were divine. And certainly well worth what I paid for them. I like a nice, moist cake, and the GOOD icing – not the stuff that’s made of whipped cream. These ladies certainly got my vote for tastiest, prettiest and well, sexiest cupcakes around.  I wonder if they really do bake in heels? If so, they certainly are the kind of women I’d like to be friends with. Well done, Baking Ladies in Heels! I will certainly spread the word about you.

My 4 year old is sick. Husband ‘fesses up.

We just had a wonderful and perfect summer weekend full of sunshine, BBQ and family time. We even had an impromptu Sunday night family dinner with my sister and her 2-year old twins. We couldn’t have asked for a happier time.

Of course, it’s now Monday morning and my husband tells me that I slept through some heavy “bathroom drama” that went all all night long.  Apparently my 4 year old son was up several times last night asking for water, cuddles from dad, and repeatedly headed to the bathroom for some, ahem, “unloading.”

When my 6 month old and I awoke this morning, my 4  year old looked pretty sick. Like any mother, I worried, and rushed to feel his forehead, take his temperature, rub his belly, etc. Sadly, the bathroom drama continued.

My husband and I went through scenarios of the past weekend: what did he eat? Was anyone else sick that could have passed a bug to him?  What happened at summer camp last week? We determined that nothing was out of the ordinary.

Alas, the decision was made for him to stay home from summer day camp this morning. Truthfully, I wasn’t looking forward to spending my day dealing with the “bathroom habits” of both my 4 year old while simultaneously dealing with a 6 month old in diapers!  So, when my husband left, I chugged my second coffee, took a deep breath and started the day.

It hasn’t been pretty. I won’t go into details. I’m just thankful the 2 boys went down for a nap at the same time so that I can have a few moments of peace (and write this!).  Well, my phone just rang.  “How sweet,” I say to myself.  My husband checking in on me and the boys.  He checked in, all right. But then proceeded to say: ” I think I might know why our big boy is sick.”  Really. Let’s have it.

Apparently, yesterday afternoon, when I was in resting with the baby, he took our big guy to the corner store to fulfill his ice cream craving, and may have shared a little. Ok. We all have those cravings.

But then I remembered at our family dinner a few hours later, we gave the kids ice cream after dinner. That’s okay, it’s summer, all kids deserve a treat.

Then husband says: ” He may have had his share of ice cream, and may have finished his cousin’s portion too.”   I tried to remember the servings. Yep, they were pretty big. It was determined that my 40-pound 4 year old, probably had the equivalent to 3 adult-sized ice cream cones in the span of 4 hours. Lovely.

So yes, my husband confessed to it all and says he’ll be home early tonight, and “what would I like for take-out for dinner, dear?” Right. I’m now thinking of ways that I can milk this one. (And why not? Don’t I deserve it?) Happy Monday, all!

I *heart* my Seven for All Mankind Maternity Jeans

Like most women, I love clothes. And shoes. Well, may as well add jewelry to that list too.

But when we’re pregnant, it’s frustrating when you’re unable to fit in your favourite jeans and in my case, your favourite shoes! Thankfully, many of my favourite jean brands offer maternity styles.

Seven for All Mankind, Citizen of Humanity, Paige Premium Denim – they all have maternity jeans so you can look good, and still feel sexy. No more muu-muu type clothes or silly maternity sundresses!  We stylish moms-to-be still want to look good. (hint: eBay has the best deals on both new and gently used styles!)

Now…if only I can fit my swollen tootsies into my favourite heels…..

2013 Waiting List?

While cleaning out my home office desk last night, I came across a business card of a pre-school in my neighbourhood. I remember taking the card from the school last year, when I tried to get my now 4-year old into it.  We didn’t get into the school, and they “kindly” reminded me that pre-school registration usually happens not long after a baby is born.  Huh?  Well, it was August and the school started in September of that year, so I guess you could say I was REALLY late.

I understand that available spaces fill up quickly, especially when you live in the city. I don’t know about most people, but upon having a baby, I had other things on my mind, like sleeplessness, breastfeeding, diapers, etc. Pre-school, (or any school!) was far from my mind.  Guess I’m not as organized as I thought I once was.

So, when I came across this business card, what do you think I did? That’s right – I jumped right on-line and registered my new baby for the 2013 school year.  2013!  Three hours later, I got a message from the school acknowledging receipt. I will not be disorganized this time. Oh, the power of experience!  With a whopping four years of experience being a parent, I got this pre-school thing.
